Rain is a Four Letter Word

Rain is a Four Letter Word

Whenever it rains, I feel so free
Free as a bird, rain is my life

Washing away my troubles
Quenching my sun baked soul

While others rush for cover
I stroll among the empty streets
The rain dancing upon my lips

Looking up at the gray clouds
I open my mouth to catch the rain
Laughing at the silliness of it

Whenever I am sad
The rain hides my tears,
And soothes me with
The fresh clean air

The soft pitter-patter on my window
Lulls me to sleep as it sings its lullaby

I let out a sigh
As I wave goodbye
To the departing clouds
The sun shining through

Until next time rain
For now I bid thee
Adieu

Our Experience to the Khmer Food

The moment the husband and I set our foot in Siem Reap his first question was, “so what to eat and where to eat now?”. E, prefers Vegetarian food, he considers himself a fake vegetarian 🙂 because he still eat egg and mushroom. I, on the other hand is practicing Pescan diet, so its not really hard for me to find a place to eat when we travel. I admit, it was my bad as I didn’t really research well for vegetarian places in Siem Reap, I was actually hoping that its very easy to spot one. 🙂

Luckily, some of the restaurants serves vegetable dishes, though its not really pure vegetarian as they also include fish sauce to their ingredients. 🙂 I can’t really call E a vegetarian, because again, he still eats egg, hehehe, so problem solved. We will just order a vegetable dish for him.

Below are the food we had during our 2 days stay in Siem Reap. We had our breakfast at the hotel, just the basic one, egg, bread and coffee.

Khmerfood-1

Four our lunch, he had this Khmer mixed vegetable in a coconut milk, too bad I forgot what is the name of this dish. It was so good that he emptied the bowl.

khmerfood-2

We also ordered this button mushroom in oyster sauce, though nothing is special on this dish, but we were able to finish this as well.

khmerfood-3

As for me, I had this sour fish soup. Its similar to Thai’s tom yum soup less spicy. I find this really yummy that I finished all the fish and the soup, too bad i didn’t finish the veggies.

For our dinner, E and I head out from the hotel and decided to join some of the tourists, where else? Of course to Night Market and Pub Street! 🙂

khmerfood-4

The husband decided not to eat dinner as he was still full from eating 2 fresh coconut. 🙂  So I decided to order vegetarian spring rolls with peanut sauce for him, in case he feels like eating while watching me. 🙂 Its strange though, but every time I see spring rolls in the menu, either fresh or fried, I always had this urge to order them.

khmerfood-5

I had obsession with soup 🙂 so for dinner I ordered this hot pot fish and vegetable soup.

khmerfood-6

Too bad, on our second day lunch I didn’t took photos. ;(

For dinner, we went back to Night Market and the stars are in our favour, we saw Chamkar Vegetarian Restaurant! Finally, a vegetarian restaurant, wohoo!

khmerfood-7

For starters we had this bread, vegetable and fruit plater with eggplant and avocado dip.

khmerfood-8

I ordered stir fried Glass Noodles in coconut milk and curry sauce with vegetables and fried tofu. I find it salty though, but more or less its yum, plus its organic, who am I to complain. 🙂

khmerfood-9

E ordered this mixed vegetable soup, that again I forgot the name. haaayyy… According to him, this dish is also yum

Overall, we enjoyed the Khmer food, its new to our tastebuds. I’m hoping one of these days I’ll will come across a good Khmer food here in Singapore.

The Angkor Temples

The long wait is finally over! My yellow backpack has finally landed the beautiful Kingdom of Cambodia!

Back in primary school the only thing I knew about Cambodia is Angkor Wat, nothing else. I didn’t know their were a lot of temples in Cambodia, face palm. 🙂 And I clearly remember, my 11 year old self dreamt of seeing  the beauty of Angkor Wat before my very own eyes. Back then, it was only a dream.

Fast forward to 2016, I found myself searching for cheap flights and cheap hotels (both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh) for our Cambodia trip. Finally. Flights booked. Hotels booked. Packing done. Leaves approved. And just like that I found myself in the beautiful country of Cambodia. Dreams do come true, I say. 🙂

I didn’t do much research on which places to visit, as I was so sure that I will only visit the Angkor Temples, for our 2 days stay in Siem Reap, I didn’t even booked for a tour guide. 🙂 Luckily, when we arrived in Siem Reap we met a very kind and accommodating tuk-tuk driver.

I don’t want to take so much of your time, so please scroll down, as I am sharing some of the photos we took during our temple hopping in Siem Reap.

My yellow backpack says, THANK YOU SIEAM REAP, CAMBODIA!!! It was indeed a dream come true seeing Angkor Wat before my very own eyes. All the Angkor Temples are very beautiful, my personal favourites are Angkor Wat and Bayon Temple.

For those who are planning to visit Cambodia, I personally recommend the tuk-tuk driver we met, his name is Mr. Ne, you can contact him through Facebook. I highly recommend Mr. Ne, as he is very familiar with all the temples and their respective histories.

not all who wander are lost.

KOREF, I had so much fun during our stay. I wish I could go back soon and experience again waking up in the morning in the middle of the rice field :), experience again eating fresh vegetables and fish not to mention the fresh air we inhale every second of the day.

If you wish to detach yourself away from the hustle and bustle city life, you might want to consider staying in KOREF, even just for a couple of days.
